A very special Mother’s Day, was one that I remember as a child. I couldn’t have been more than 9 or 10 years old and I wanted to buy my mother something really beautiful, with the few dollars that I had saved from my allowance.
My father took me to the neighborhood dime store, that’s all I could afford, to make my selection. There it was, the most beautiful pair of drop earrings. Covered with rhinestones and a cluster of balls that were dangling from the clip in the brightest color orange imaginable. I just knew my mother would love them. I had some money left over so I threw in a red-red lipstick to match.
I left the gift for her the next morning before my dad took me to Sunday school. When I came home, there was my mother, glowing with the biggest smile on her face. She was wearing the orange rhinestone earrings and the red-red lipstick like a glamorous movie star.
Years later, we laughed about that gift. Those earrings, with the red-red lipstick, were downright ugly. I thought they were beautiful and my mom made it so.

These are all lovely and indulgent gifts! I find it harder and harder to get gifts for my Mother. She can’t burn candles, has physical issues, etc. This year I sent her a Meori reusable grocery bag. I figure they are the kind of product that you wouldn’t splurge on for yourself, but would enjoy using over the flimsy ones. I guess we will see if she likes it. Thanks for sharing some ideas that people would not have thought of!!
I’ve tried a bunch of the gift items. I guess I picked the ones that I would love to receive.
My children just asked me what I wanted for Mother’s Day. I should just send them the blog post.
It’s so nice you still have your mother to share experiences with. How lucky you are.
What a wonderful collection of Mom Day gifts, Ronni! I have to say that I got fixated on those aromatherapy shower steamers. I clicked on the link and discovered that they also come in a lavender scent, one of my favorites! I know that this was the list of gift ideas for our moms, but I might just have to buy a bag of those steamers. Have you tried them? Gifts I’ve loved giving and receiving are spa gift certificates for massages, facials, etc… It’s always good to pamper those that give so much to others.
This is the first Mother’s Day without my mom, so it’s going to feel kind of strange. The one thing that became apparent in the last ten-plus years was the gift she wanted and appreciated most. It wasn’t stuff—no flowers, chocolates, or nightgowns. What was most precious to her was time spent together. I really get it. I feel that way too. While I love all these lovely things, the best gift I could receive is time with my family.
Linda, at least once a week I learn how alike we are. I love lavender, spas, massages, and facials. Go figure.
I completely understand what you’re saying about the best kind of gift. Being with our family. As we get older we learn that the best gifts aren’t the ones that we can buy.
I’ll be thinking of you this Mother’s Day as I know it’s going to be a hard one. Celebrations without our loved ones is painful. Especially the first year of loss. I’m quite sure your mother is smiling knowing you’ve created a good life for yourself. (That’s what we moms want most for our children, right?)
You have selected some wonderful gifts here, Ronni! I know I love to be on the receiving end of the scented candles and shower bombs. I shared many special mothers’ days with my mom. One year I organized the family (my family plus my 4 siblings and their families) to go to our mother’s house. I had hired a photographer that we all loved to come over and take candid photos as well as family group photos. That is a very special memory. It is one of the last pictures I have of our mother and her 5 children together. A wonderful memory for sure!
Oh, Diane. That’s such a precious memory. I’m sure that made your mother feel very loved and honored. I can’t think of a better gift.
Your mother was a wonderful person, Ronni – what a gift she gave you!
Thank you, Lucy! It’s interesting how that memory is so vivid. I can only imagine how she must have been laughing to herself but I didn’t have a clue. It’s all those subtle ways that we make others feel special.
Great products! Mothers everywhere will enjoy all these items. You always share the best things! Thank you for sharing. I’m going to be buying a few for myself. 😉
That’s sweet, Sabrina! The fit bit is on my list! I need all the motivation I can get for exercising!
Great ideas!! I wouldn’t mind getting any of them. Think I’ll share this post with my son LOL. GREAT JOB.
Thank you,Sherry! My son needs a few hints too. By the way, those slippers are the coziest.
I love the two journal ideas. They would be great keepsakes.
Janet,
They’re so much fun. I love filling out journals and answering interesting questions
What a sweet and wonderful story about you and your mom. O appreciate all your gift ideas and will be sure to share this post with my husband, hahaha.
Melanie,
I know you’re such a hard-working mama. I hope you get exactly what you want for Mother’s Day. You deserve the day off…if at all possible!
Mother’s Day is such a nice day to celebrate.
Luxurious, pampering gifts are one category of tangible non-clutter, that’s for sure. I love those luxe bedroom slippers, and I can only imagine what a comfort those shower steamers must be.
I get my mom lots of magazine subscriptions; ever since I was young, I recall her describing them as her textbooks and professional journals. But the print magazine industry isn’t what it used to be, so it’s nice to see this kind of variety! And I think a Fitbit with a nice band can be both practical and aesthetically pleasing. You picked some really nifty items!
Hello Julie,
I can tell you first hand that those slippers are amazing. They are as soft and comfortable as they look.
I really like the Fitbit because it’s reliable. I purchased another brand, not that long ago, from another manufacture. It broke on day one and I had such a hard time returning the one that I bought (and the extra one I was going to give as a gift.) Which, of course, I didn’t.
Magazine subscriptions are fun. It’s definitely something most people wouldn’t buy for themselves.
